Andrea Matticchio

My name is Andrea Matticchio, and I am a PhD student in Linguistics at the University of Massachusetts Amherst (USA). Before going to Amherst, I studied at the University of Padua (Italy) and worked as a doctoral researcher in the Research Training Group “Form–Meaning Mismatches” at the University of Göttingen (Germany).

I am a semanticist with a strongly theoretical orientation and a growing experimental side. My research centers on how the logic of questions and answers structures semantic composition, and in particular on how the question-dependence of natural language meaning can be observed in the behavior of core logical operators such as negation, conjunction, and disjunction. At the NegLaB I pursue this agenda within Project B04 researching the interaction between negation and conjunction: combining a theoretical and an experimental approach, I ask how the available interpretations are determined by the way natural language structures meaning around focus and questions.
